Thank you Jose for last month’s ambassador posts. Also shoutout to @jennybhairbeauty for finishing the NCR marathon on Saturday. This week we are starting with our December #IRunMoore ambassador Cassandra Burke. Cassandra has been a friend of the store since day one and we hope enjoy getting to know her this month.

Happy Monday! I’m so excited to represent RunMoore as the December Ambassador. It’s at this time of year that everyone starts thinking about where they want to go in the New Year. My personal life philosophy was born out of my own personal journey – Challenge Yourself to Cross Your Own Personal Finish Lines #CrossYourFinishLines.

About 9 years ago, I was finishing treatment for breast cancer (still cancer free, Woot! Woot!) and decided to enter my first triathlon as my victory celebration. I was NOT a runner! As you can see from the picture, I was very overweight. Running wasn’t easy for me. In fact, I could barely run more than a minute at a time. With the support of a lot of great Westminster Running Community peeps and a pretty great Running Coach (Shout out, Coach Dave), I crossed that finish line and looked back a year later and couldn’t believe how far I’d come. I have been running ever since. I started with 5K’s, coming in last in every race followed by the police car and then eventually not. I moved on to 10K’s and then half marathons.

Along with my amazing husband, I have traveled domestically and internationally running many races of various distances over these last 5-6 years. The picture above was one of those events – Disneyland Paris weekend where we ran the 5K, 10K and half marathon in one weekend. I am now a Certified RRCA Running Coach and have coached several friends and personal training clients to their first races and beyond. I also sit on the Board of Directors for the Westminster Road Runners Club (WRRC) and am the Race Director for the Bachman Valley Half Marathon and 2–Person Relay.

Running has given me more than I would have ever imagined and I hope that my story throughout December inspires you to lace up your own running shoes and cross your first finish line or push yourself to a new running goal!
