Hey everyone, thanks for checking out our review of the new Altra Lone Peak 5!
Altra’s #1 trail shoe is the Lone Peak. This shoe is known to be able to do a little bit of everything on the trail from small loops to ultra marathons. With its zero-drop platform and rounded toe box, the Lone Peak is a classic in the Altra line up.
With the new updates, there is a little more bounce due to the new Ego Midsole, which was previously included in the new Escalante 2.5 and proved to be very successful. This midsole provides a soft yet responsive ride which is great for long miles on the trail. Another improvement is better drainage, I find that unless you are running in really extreme conditions the standard Lone Peak does an excellent job of draining and the all-weather version isn’t necessary for most runners. Altra also improved and reinforced the toe cap so that it is now sewen on to the shoe.
They still have the same MaxTrac exterior to keep you protected but they have upgraded the integrated stone guard and the upper to be a bit more flexible. One great improvement is that the Standard Lone Peak will be available in wide! The wide options will feel like a 4E for the men or a 2D for the women.

I got these shoes early with the pre-order and I’ve been putting these shoes to the test for the past week. I’m really impressed. Great cushioning and great stability without a wide footprint. Lightweight and excellent traction. Love these shoes!

I wore a size 11 in the Lone Peak 3.0 and these feel about the same. Very comfortable shoe. Customer service was excellent.

Love the upgrades from the 4.5 to the 5. Extremely comfortable. Fantastic customer service from Run Moore! Can’t wait to start putting the miles in.

Overall this is shoes is great. And many improvements were made to the previous lone peak shoe. I personally don’t like the new ego midsole. It’s just way too squishy for a trail shoe and feels unstable. It feels pretty nice on hard ground but when you get into sand, grass or some mud it feels like it’s working against you. I’d recommend it only if you have hard rocky trails.

The shoe is very comfortable with more cushioning than the Lone Peak 4 Mid RSM I have. Fit is excellent and it’s much easier to get on and off than the 4. The only downside is the large white stripe around the bottom makes it look like a cheap tennis shoe.

I ordered the Lone Peak 5 in size 11M. They are very true to size and fit very much like my Lone Peak 3.0. Very comfortable shoe with a little more cushion than the 3.0. Stitched toe cap on 1st look is outstanding. I’m hoping these wear well, love them! Run Moore was very easy to work with and has excellent communication. These pre-orders were delayed from the factory and they kept me informed every step of the way.

First of all, can’t believe I received these before they were even released by Altra! A huge testament to Run Moore! First impressions, they feel perfect and have restored my faith in the loan peaks!
